La Trama

L-Gaim is a tale of revenge. The young Daba Myroad is seeking to bring down Oldna Poseidal as Poseidal did decades earlier to the rulers of the Pentagona System. This series is a forerunner to the Five Star Stories as mecha and story themes encountered there are also encountered here. Told in 54 TV episodes and 1 OAV. Heavy Metal L-Gaim -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Introduction -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Following such works as Aura Battler Dunbine, Fang of the Sun Dougram, and other similar Nippon Sunrise robot-oriented shows, Heavy Metal L-Gaim combined political intrigue and a vast, detailed history to create a dramatic science fiction saga. Making its debut on Japanese TV on February 4th, 1984 L-Gaim ran for 54 episodes (50-54 episodes usually means a successful run on Japanese TV). The series is primarily known for being the first artistic triumph of robot designer Mamoru Nagano, who not only co-wrote the story with famed Gundam creator Yoshiyuki Tomino, but is also responsible for all of the technical and character designs. Following the series, two compilation OAVs followed, as well as the movie Full Metal Soldier. Following L-Gaim, Nagano went on to become one of the chief designers for Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam. Following the huge success of that series, Nagano went back to his roots and used L-Gaim as his prototype to create his masterpiece, Five Star Stories. While several character and technical designs share the same names, L-Gaim and Five Star Stories are very different. L-Gaim deserves every bit as much attention as other successful Japanimation of its time.
